Results from the MEESO project has been published in ICES Journal of Marine Science.

In a recently published work MEESO scientists have developed and tested a new method for direct acoustic estimation of the biomass of individual mesopelagic fish, by combining an acoustic model with at depth measurements of the wideband echoes of the fish.

The article presents the methodology used, as well as a test of the method for individuals of the important mesopelagic genus Cyclothone (see photo), which is believed to be the most abundant genus of fish in the oceans.
