Results from the MEESO project has been published in Annual Review of Marine Science.
A new paper from the MEESO project provides a thorough review on our scientific knowledge about the prevalence and ecological significance of deep diving behaviour among oceanic megafauna – from whales, sharks and tuna to penguins and turtles. It evaluates empirical evidence for multiple explanations on why do many of these creatures dive from superficial waters to the great depths, including that they do so to feed on the large mesopelagic and bathypelagic resources of the oceans.
