On 25 march 2022, a hybrid workshop with new knowledge and insights of the mesopelagic zone will be held.

On 25 March 2022 9.30 am - 16.00 GMT, Ireland's Seafood Development Agency, who is part of the MEESO project, hosts a workshop about the mesopelagic zone. The event takes place as a hybrid meeting – online and on Castletroy Park Hotel, Limerick, Ireland.

At this high-level, professionally moderated seminar a panel of Irish and international scientific experts share their knowledge and insights of the mesopelagic zone.

Topics covered include:

  • Acoustic survey estimates.
  • Modelling mesopelagic fish and their ecosystems.
  • Catching, processing and economic considerations.

The mesopelagic zone exists at a depth of between 200 and 1000 metres below the ocean surface, occupying 60% of the earth’s surface. The zone contains a wide variety of fish species. However, until recently there has been little focused research activity in this area.

Registration

Participation is free, but you must register for the event. The deadline for registration is Tuesday 22 March 2022 at 5pm GMT.
