Results from the MEESO project has been published in The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America.

In a recently published work MEESO scientists continue their work on improving the scientific knowledge of the acoustical properties of mesopelagic fishes. In this work at depth wideband echoes of mesopelagic fishes are combined with a theoretical model to gain information on the swimbladder elongation of mesopelagic fishes.

Commonly used models for backscattering estimation of mesopelagic fishes have to make assumptions about this parameter, the obtained results will therefore improve the ability of scientists to estimate mesopelagic abundances and biomasses.
